A320 Minimum Runway Length Takeoff

How long does a rail need to be for a plane to take off and land?
/Håkan

Hello Håkan,

That's a complicated question, however 1 we pilots bargain with earlier each and every flight. How much track is needed for both takeoff and landing depends on many dissimilar factors, such as the weight of the shipping, wind, runway status and the configuration of the plane. Unlike aircraft too have different wings with differing treatment qualities. That is why smaller propeller aircraft are used to wing into airports with shorter runways, while larger jet shipping only fly to the bigger airports.

For example, accept the Airbus A320, which I fly. If I were to accept off at absolutely maximum takeoff weight, nosotros would need a minimum altitude of approximately 1,600m in zilch wind weather and at a dry runway. Nevertheless, we oftentimes perform the takeoff with reduced takeoff thrust, which saves the engines and the environment, simply requires at longer runway.

At SAS, nosotros also accept larger aircraft, such equally the Airbus A330 and A350, which we regularly operate on runways such as the cross-runway at Newark, which is simply 2,050m long, and the one at Chicago which is no longer than 2,400m. In other words, all our aircraft are quite capable of operating on relatively brusque runways. But that being said, we always get out an extra margin for safety's sake. If we really needed to stop the shipping in a hurry, a heavy Airbus A320 would only need around 1,100m and the A330 around ane,300m.
